Iran, Germany discuss human rights cooperation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Irans Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani and German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg in a meeting in Tehran discussed mutual cooperation in area of human rights.

"The two countries can negotiate on issues related to human rights in a completely professional atmosphere," Larijani said.

He reiterated that the cooperation on human rights can be considered from different angles.

The German ambassador, for his part, underlined that his country is ready for the expansion of cooperation in all areas.

The two sides agreed that to hold talks on human rights issues through coordination with the two countries' foreign ministries.

The Iranian officials have always underlined the country's readiness to cooperate in different areas, including human rights, and participate in anti-terrorism campaigns across the region and the world.

In a relevant development in February, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with German Foreign Minster Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Tehran is fully prepared to step up cooperation with Berlin in fight against terrorism.

"In addition to the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral ties, Iran and Germany can and should work together to help resolve regional and international issues, particularly when it comes to fighting terrorism and establishing regional peace and stability," Rouhani added during the meeting in Tehran.

Stressing the need for the international community to stop the flow of financial and material support to the terrorist groups including arms, he said, "Terrorism is a serious threat to all, and an international campaign against it is paramount. Last month events (the terrorist attacks in Paris) showed that terrorism is a danger to everyone, including the European Union."

Steinmeier, for his part, stressed that a new chapter has opened in relations between the EU members and Iran after the nuclear deal, and said, "Berlin is determined to broaden cooperation with Tehran in political, economic, cultural and academic fields."
