TEHRAN (ISNA)- Australia and Iran intend to boost bilateral economic ties, Australian ambassador Poul Foyl said in meeting with Head of Iran Chamber Gholam-Hossein Shafei.Shafei referred to the positive economic relation between two countries in the past on row material of textile and basic commodities importation, as a good base to use Irans economic opportunities in future relation, and said, Iran's geopolitical and geographical position in the region, skilled experts, energy resources, relation with neighbors and national security would be the advantages of bilateral cooperation to facilitate mutual trading relations.
He also invited Australian Head of Chamber and members of the chamber to Iran to hold talks with Iranian private sector activists and traders.
For his part, Australian Ambassador Paul Foley expressed the hoped that the rise in quantitative indicators would be accompanied by qualitative changes in trade and economic ties.
He said that Australia-Iran trade increased by almost 50% approaching 600 billion dollars in 2013.
Paul Foley said his country believes that improving the structure of future mutual trade by sending live animals to Iranian free zones, using the Iran railway capabilities to access Afghanistan and also importing Iranian high quality nuts, carpets and saffron.
