Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has stressed the importance of Irans participation in the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in China.Irans presence in the CICA summit can contribute to the promotion of regional peace and stability, Rouhani told reporters on Tuesday prior to his departure for Shanghai.
The fourth CICA summit is scheduled to be held from May 20 to 21 in Shanghai. CICA is a multinational forum that aims to enhance cooperation in a bid to promote peace, security and stability in Asia.
The Iranian president also said his three-day visit to China is taking place at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Rouhani further underlined the significance of Tehran-Beijing relations, describing as very good Irans cooperation with China in the fields of trade, energy, industry, science and technology.
The Iranian chief executive called for the further enhancement of mutual ties with China.
Rouhani said he would hold a bilateral meeting with the Chinese president on Thursday.
According to Parviz Esmaili, head of the public relations department of Irans Presidential Office, Rouhani is scheduled to address the summit on Wednesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also attend the conference.
CICA groups 24 countries, among them Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
Nine countries and four international organizations, including the United Nations, have observer status.
The CICA summit is convened every four years in order to conduct consultations, review the progress of the forum and set priorities for its activities.
