Iranian nominated as new D-8 think-tank member

Ankara, May 10, IRNA Iranian diplomat Morteza Damanpak Jami has been nominated as the Islamic Republics Eminent Person to the D-8 Eminent Person Group (EPG), it was reported on Saturday.
Jami served as Irans Permanent Representative to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) from 2006 till 2009. The former Ambassador to Denmark is regarded as having good expertise and knowledge in economic relations.
The EPG members of the D-8 Organization of Economic Cooperation will meet for two days in Istanbul, Turkey on May 15 to 16, to examine prospects, challenges and opportunities ahead.

The think-tanks reports and recommendations will be presented to the D-8 Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in September as well as to the D-8 Summit scheduled for December 2014 in Turkey.

The Developing Eight are a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance.

The economic bloc consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The D-8 countries comprise around one billion people, or around 17% of the worlds population, with a dynamic labor force.

The Muslim-majority nations have rich mineral, energy and agricultural resources, and a promising tourism prospect, competitive operational costs and above all, diversity.

The D-8 countries, when calculated together, consist of 55 % of the total GDP of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
