Activists mark four years of opposition house arrests

225 Iranian activists issued a statement calling for the release of opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Zahra Rahnavard.
Kaleme reports in a statement the activist say: Three years have passed since the illegal house arrest of the leaders of the Green Movement of Iranian people and since February 14, 2011 Mr. Karroubi, Mr. Mousavi and Ms. Zahra Rahnavard have been under house arrest without any trial and are being denied even the least rights given to political prisoners.

Meanwhile a number of Iranian political activists visited the daughters of MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard as the house arrest of these opposition leaders entered its fourth year expressing support for the opposition leaders.

According to Kaleme the Mousavi daughters said authorities have made no significant change in their parents situation as they remain completely shut off from the outside world.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, has made it clear that if the two leaders do not repent, there is no chance they will be released.

The Iranian establishment has repeatedly accused Mousavi and fellow former presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi of leading a seditious movement; however, there have never been any formal charges laid against them.

The two leaders reject such accusations and maintain their activities are completely within the framework of the countrys constitution.

The new Iranian administration, by virtue of more moderate policies, has tried to secure the release of the opposition leaders but so far it has been unsuccessful in negotiating their release with the Islamic Republic hardliners.
