The 32nd Irans most important film presentation and competition festival, Fajr International Film Festival, has started its programs during a ceremony held in Tehrans Vahdat Hall.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani along with the countrys number of cultural officials attended the opening gala held on January 31.
Three eminent Iranian cineastes including Iranian actor Mehdi Hashemi, the celebrated actress and stage director Homa Rousta and Jahangir Mirshekari were honored for their lifetime achievements in cinema at the ceremony.
Some 52 films are slated to go on the screen of festivals competition section. Tehrans Milad Tower is hosting the section in five screening programs, from 10 in the morning until 21:30 in the evening.
Irans Rouhollah Hejazis dramaThe Wedlock (Zendegi Moshtarak-E Aghaye Mahmoudi Va Banoo)is to open the festivals screening programs today, February 1. The film is not competing at the section, said the festivals secretary Ali-Reza Reza Dad.
The Festival is slated to host the seventh celebration of Irans Cinematic Critics and Writers during the years programs.
Supervised by Irans Ministry of Culture, the annual event is comprised of two competitive sections as well as two non-competitive categories.
The participants contend for awards in two main sections of national and international of the festival, competing in different categories including feature length, short films and documentary productions.
Established in 1982, the festival is also to host the 17th International Iranian Film Market (IFM) while a large number of reputed Iranian and international film distributors and buyers are slated to flock to the event.
This years festival is set to run until February 11, 2014.
