Ankara, Jan 20, IRNA - Iran?s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on Monday discussed latest developments in Syria over phone.

During the telephone conversation, the two ministers also exchanged views on the upcoming visit of the Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Tehran.


The Turkish foreign minister expressed hope that Iran would play a very positive role in Geneva II conference on Syria.

Turkey would continue its close contacts with Tehran as it believes that Iran?s role in resolving Syrian crisis is of prime importance, said the Turkish foreign minister.

He urged Syrian rivals to stop fighting and let humanitarian goods be distributed across Syria, said the Turkish foreign minister.

The Iranian foreign minister, for his part, called for expansion of cooperation between Iran and Turkey.

Turkey believes that Iran can help find a way out of the current crisis in Syria, Zarif said.

Both ministers maintained that the upcoming visit of Turkish premier to Tehran should be considered as a turning point in broadening ties and cooperation between the two countries.
