Berlin, Jan 17, IRNA -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will bethe ?political highlight? at next week?s World Economic Forumin the Swiss mountain resort of Davos, slated for January 22-25,according to the Hamburg-based weekly news magazine Der Spiegel.Rouhani?s presence in Davos will be the focal point of attention at the annual conference which is to attract chief executives of the world?s biggest companies and 40 heads of state and government.
The Iranian chief executive will hold a speech at the Davos forum titled ?Iran?s Place in the World?.
The latest rather positive developments in the Iranian nuclear case are expected to take a prominent place among topics discussed at the high-profile meeting of the world?s political and economic elites.
Iran and six world powers have agreed to start implementing the Geneva treaty, which foresees curbs on the Iranian nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.
Meanwhile, economic policy debates in Davos are also set to feature overnment leaders from major developed economies, including Britain?s David Cameron, Italy?s Enrico Letta and Japan?s Shinzo Abe.
Germany?s Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is recovering from a Nordic skiing accident, will not attend this year.
Leaders from emerging countries also take up a large share on the Davos guest list, among them Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
The World Economic Forum was founded in January 1971 when a group of European business leaders met under the patronage of the European Commission and European industrial associations.
It has provided a critical platform for promoting peace and reconciliation in many parts of the world, deepening understanding between East and West before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, introducing emerging economies such as China and India to the international community, and bringing to the fore the latest trends and developments in many fields.
The Forum has also been the catalyst for a number of significant global
initiatives, in the area of environmental awareness and health.
