Geneva, Jan 10, IRNA Representatives of Iran and the United States in political talks over the remaining couple of issues over the implementation of Geneva nuclear deal had a bilateral meeting here on Thursday evening.The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and veteran US diplomat Wendy Shermans bilateral meeting took place after a trilateral meeting among them and the Deputy EU Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmid.
Ms. Sherman who had stopped in Geneva on his way to Moscow to participate in the meeting between the Iranian and the EU top diplomats nuclear negotiations will not be present in Araqchi-Schmid Friday talks.
The bilateral talks between the Iranian and the US diplomats took hours behind closed doors.
The Iranian delegation in this round of talks with the Sextet is led by Araqchi and includes the Managing Director of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Office for Political and International Affairs Hamid Baidinezhad and that ministrys technicians, officials from the Nuclear Energy Organization of Iran, and banking and oil affairs experts.
The leader of the G5+1 side, Ms. Helga Schmid, too, is accompanied with sanctions and nuclear technicians.
Nearly seven weeks after signing a landmark nuclear deal, Iran and six world powers hope to reach an agreement this week on its implementation.
Both sides say reaching agreement is possible at a two-day meeting beginning Thursday afternoon in Geneva.
Under the November agreement, Iran agreed to limit its uranium enrichment to 5 percent the grade commonly used to power reactors. The deal also commits Iran to stop producing 20 percent enriched uranium and to neutralize its 20 percent stockpile.
At the same time, the agreement allows Tehran to continue enrichment research and development.
