President of ECO-IEST meets D8 Secretary General
Zistboom:On Friday 13 December 2013, Dr. Asghar Mohammadi Fazel, President of the ECO Institute of EnvironmentalScience and Technology (ECO-IEST) had a meeting with Mr. Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, Secretary General of the D8 Group at the Headquarters of this organization in Istanbul and discussed the prospect of future cooperation between two Organizations.
During this meeting Dr. Fazel briefed D8 Secretary General on the programs and activities of ECO-IEST and noting the fact that Iran, Pakistan and Turkey who are the founders of the Economic Corporation Organization (ECO) are also members of D-8 group with respect to several common cultural, social, economic and environmental features and characteristics of both organizations emphasized on the great capacity for increasing the cooperation between them and also their Member States and affiliated Institutes.

Mr. Mousavi also listed some of the common objectives of D8 and ECO, described ECO-IEST as an important activist for the environment in the region and put emphasis on strengthening the links between D-8 and this Institute on Environmental issues through joint projects, meetings and capacity building activities.

During this meeting, the President of the ECO-IEST invited D8 Secretary General to visit the Institute in his next visit to Tehran.

The Developing 8 (known as D-8) is a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living. D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects. Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) is a forum with no adverse impact on bilateral and multilateral commitments of the member countries, emanating from their membership to other international or regional organizations.
