Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif addresses foreign representatives at the UN Headquarters in New York, September 18, 2013.[/caption]Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has met with his Dutch, Slovakian and Croatian counterparts on the sidelines on the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York City.
In separate meetings at the UN Headquarters on Monday, Zarif discussed bilateral relations as well as issues of international importance with the foreign ministers of the Netherlands, Croatia and Slovakia.
During the meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, Zarif said Iran and the Netherlands enjoy deep historical relations.
In political, economic and cultural areas, there are many grounds [for cooperation] that we can negotiate, Zarif told the Dutch minister.
Timmermans, for his part, praised Irans glorious history, culture and civilization, stressing that the Netherlands is interested in the continuation of political negotiations between the two countries.
The two ministers also exchanged views on different regional and international issues including the situation in Syria and Afghanistan as well as the condition of minorities in Europe.
In another meeting, Zarif and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak held talks on the different grounds for further Tehran-Bratislava cooperation, calling for the expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries in all spheres.
The Iranian foreign minister also held a separate meeting with his Croatian counterpart Vesna Pusic. The two described Tehran-Zagreb ties as close and significant and called for the further expansion of relations between their countries.
During the talks, Zarif underlined Irans significant role in ending the crisis in Bosnia during the Balkan wars in 1990s.
They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East and the situation in Afghanistan.
