Putin to visit Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to visit Tehran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

"Putin has been invited to Iran and he will certainly take advantage of this kind invitation. The date of the visit will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels," the Interfax news agency quoted Putin's Spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying on Friday.

Rouhani invited Putin to visit Iran during the meeting the two officials had on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on Friday.

Addressing the Shanghai meeting, Putin once again underlined the peaceful nature of Irans nuclear program, and said that the Islamic Republic is entitled to the right of nuclear enrichment.

We presume that Iran, the same as any other state, has the right to the peaceful use of atomic energy, including enrichment operations, Putin said on Friday.

Putin reiterated that there is no evidence for West's allegations concerning the Islamic Republic's peaceful nuclear energy program.

Putin last visited Iran in 2007 to participate in a summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states.
