A senior Iranian lawmaker has underscored Syrias readiness to face any US attack, saying that the Israeli regime and other allies of Washington in the region will surely face a response by Syria.If they attack Syria, Syria will certainly target the usurper and bogus Zionist regime, Chairman of Irans Majlis Subcommittee on Foreign Policy Vahid Ahmadi said on Tuesday, adding that such self-defeating repercussions have made the Americans hesitant.
By attacking Syria, he added, the security of the Israeli regime will be "dealt a serious blow and such reservations have prompted Americans to delay action and throw the ball into the field of Congress.
Ahmadi further warned that should the US begin a war on Syria, then the war will not only be limited to the US and Syria, and those countries and entities that have encouraged, funded and helped inflame the conflict would certainly be regarded by Syria [as potential targets].
Pointing to the extensive US campaign for an attack on Syria under the pretext of its alleged use of chemical weapons, Ahmadi stated that raising humanitarian issues to justify the war contrasts with the dark US track record in places like Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib torture and prison camps.
Ahmadi also noted that while US President Barack Obama used the unfulfilled pledge of closing down Guantanamo and the condemnation of US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as a campaign strategy to win his way to the White House, he now wants to wage a war on Syria himself.
The Iranian legislator further said a US war on Syria will end in failure and involve immeasurable consequences for Washington and its allies.
Washington is struggling to secure support for military action against Syria over the accusation that the Syrian government was involved in a deadly chemical attack in Damascus on August 21. Following intense campaigns against the US plan to bomb Syria, Obama sought the Congress backing for the war.
The US war threats come despite having admitted that it does not have irrefutable, beyond-a-reasonable-doubt evidence against the Syrian government.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has also warned of massive retaliation if the United States launches a military strike against his country.
Assad told the US-based CBS News on Monday that Washington should "expect everything" if US forces attack his country.
