Fatah: Israel benefiting from US strike on Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior official of the Palestinian Fatah Movement deplored any possible US military strike on Syria, and underlined that any foreign-led attack on the Muslim country will merely be in the interest of Israel.

Any military intervention against Syria will be merely beneficial to Israel, member of the Fatah Central Committee Jamal Muhaisen told FNA in the Palestinian city of Nablus.

The US has plotted to attack all those Arab countries that threaten its and the Zionist regimes interests in the region, he added.

He said that the US is now after the destruction of Syria and ruining the power and integrity of the Muslim countrys army.

Muhaisen said that the Palestinians consider the existing capabilities and facilities in Syria as to be belonging to all Arab Ummah (community), and reiterated that the main purpose for attacking Syria is making the Syrian nation bow to pressure.

On Sunday, Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Hassan Mahmoud underlined that his country will give a crushing response to any possible US attack.

In defense of its nation, Syria will decisively respond to any act of aggression by the US and aggressors will pay a heavy price for their assault on the country, the Syrian envoy said.

Mahmoud strongly rejected the accusations of chemical weapons use by the Syrian government, saying such groundless claims are pretexts to justify military action against Syria following the strategic success gained by the Syrian army over extremist groups.

Last week, Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jasem al-Freij said the Syrian army and people are ready to confront any form of military aggression on the country by western powers, promising to decisively respond to any attack.

Al-Freij stressed that criminal terrorists have deliberately used chemical weapons, killing women and innocent children to get more support from the West in order to blackout their defeat, thus misleading the public opinion to justify their continued crimes, Al-Manar reported.

The US and other western countries have adopted the rhetoric of war against Syria over allegations that the Syrian government was behind a recent chemical attack near Damascus.

The call for military strike intensified after the militants operating inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August 21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar. The Syrian government has strongly denied the claim, accusing the militants of the attack.
