Syrian president thanks Iran for diplomatic campaign to thwart US threat


Damascus, Sept 1, IRNA -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday thanked Iran for diplomatic campaign to thwart US threat to Syria.
The Syrian president made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation led by the Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iranian Majlis Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

The president said that the United States Administration and US Congress see the Israeli security as the US preference.

Boroujerdi, for his part underlined that the Iranian nation and government continue with support for Syria vis-a-vis any threat.

Iranian principled stand is based on the guidelines made by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution to support Syria for being on the frontline of resistance to Israeli occupation, he said.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation also conferred with Syrian foreign minister Walid Moallem on political as well as regional developments.

Moallem said that the US mercenaries have failed to implement the US policies in Syria over the past two years and that the White House has made a decision for military intervention in Syria.

Addressing the reporters after his meeting with Iranian delegation, al-Moallem said the two sides had the same opinion that the US mercenaries can do nothing in their struggle with resistance and consolidated ties between Tehran and Damascus as well as Lebanese Hezbollah.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation also conferred with Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader Al-Halqi on ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation are due to leave Damascus for Lebanon to confer with the Lebanese high ranking officials on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
