Iran and Oman have signed heads of agreement on the export of Iranian gas to the Persian Gulf state which will accelerate the implementation of previous agreements in this regard.The heads of agreement was signed between Irans Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Omani Minister of Oil and Gas Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday night.
Under the heads of agreement, both sides agreed to start the construction of the pipeline carrying Irans gas to Oman in a short period.
The heads of agreement was signed during the three-day official visit of Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said to Tehran.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Omani ruler arrived in Tehran on Sunday as the first head of state to travel to Iran since Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took office on August 4, 2013.
Iran-Oman energy cooperation is necessary as the Arab country needs to supply its liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants with natural gas.
Iran, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is the closest neighbor to Oman in the Persian Gulf, which makes it the most economical source of gas supply.
