French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has expressed hope that the inauguration of Iranian President Hassan Rohani will open a new chapter in Paris-Tehran relations.During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani on Tuesday, the the French minister emphasized that his country is prepared to work with Irans new administration.
Pointing to Rohanis expressed desire for dialogue, Fabius further called on the Islamic Republic to address international concerns about its nuclear energy program.
During the meeting, Fabius and Ahani also exchanged views on Tehran-Paris ties, human rights issues and regional developments, including the Syrian crisis.
On Tuesday, Rohani said during a press conference that his administration seeks to pursue a win-win approach to finding a solution for Irans nuclear issue, adding, We are prepared to enter serious and meaningful negotiations with determination and without wasting time.
The Iranian ambassador, for his part, underlined the vast capacities for cooperation between Iran and France.
Ahani also reiterated Irans nuclear stance, saying, Although the Islamic Republic of Iran seriously pursues the use of peaceful nuclear technology under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), [Tehran] has never put building nuclear weapons on its agenda.
According to the Iranian ambassador, Irans nuclear issue can be resolved through dialogue in an atmosphere free from sanctions and pressure.
The US, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and the European Union using the unfounded allegation as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.
Tehran has categorically rejected West's accusation, arguing that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
