A senior Iranian lawmaker says the Islamic Republics defensive capability is aimed at protecting not just Iran, but all Muslim nations against hegemonic powers.In a meeting with the ambassadors of Islamic countries to Tehran on Sunday, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said, Irans defensive power is, in the first place, aimed at preventing the US interference in the region, and secondly to cut off imperialisms hand of the oppressed countries in the world.
He noted that Iran considers the victories of Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Pakistan and Afghanistan against their enemies as also one of its own.
Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, and that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
Further pointing to the plight of the Palestinian people, the Iranian legislator said victory against the Israeli regime can be achieved through resistance.
Among the top diplomats present at the meeting was Palestinian Ambassador to Tehran Salah Zawawi, who described as regrettable the ongoing unrest in some Muslim countries in the region, adding that the roots of these crises can be traced back to Israeli plots.
Referring to the planned resumption of US-backed talks between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli regime, Zawawi said the long history of resistance indicates that the Palestinian nation is not interested in these talks and not optimistic about their results.
Most Palestinian factions have condemned the decision by acting PA Chief Mahmoud Abbas to restart talks with the Israeli regime.
On July 28, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip staged a protest rally to object to the resumption of talks, calling on the PA to abandon the negotiations and return to resistance against the Tel Aviv regime.
On July 25, Israeli Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom said the talks may resume in Washington next week.
The Palestinian-Israeli talks were halted in September 2010 over disagreements on Israeli settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.
