Irans Ambassador to New Delhi Gholam Reza Ansari says Tehran favors economic stability and development in the region as it believes this is in the interest of all regional states, particularly the Islamic Republic.Addressing students at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi on Thursday, Ansari pointed to Irans efforts to become an economic heavyweight in the region and added that Tehran seeks to share its economic prowess with regional countries.
Given the existence of competent and skilled manpower in the Islamic Republic of Iran, we will be the first country to benefit from economic stability and development in the region, the Iranian envoy stated.
He called for the regulation of cooperation among Iran, India, Afghanistan and Iraq to achieve more security and stability.
Referring to the impact of emerging economies, including China, India and Brazil, on global developments, the ambassador emphasized, Gone are the times when the world would be managed by a single country, and (now) all nations should contribute to world management.
He further highlighted the very good cooperation between Iran and India in the energy sector.
India needs energy to boost its development trend, and Iran is an energy producer, he said.
New Delhi also needs to have access to Central Asia, particularly Afghanistan, said the ambassador, adding that the best and most secure route for India is Iran .
Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on June 29 that Iran is vital to his countrys energy security, saying the Islamic Republic can provide greater access to Central Asia.
"We are looking at re-energizing the national North-South Corridor to connect India with Central Asia and Russia through Iran, the Indian minister said.
The Islamic Republic is located in the international corridor. The Iranian part of the corridor starts in Chabahar port city in the south and will continue up to the city of Mashhad.
