Iran welcomes truce agreement between Azerbaijan, Armenia
The Iran Project - The Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed its support for the recent ceasefire agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenian-backed separatists in the Karabakh region.

The agreement, proposed by Russia, aims to prevent further hostilities in the area.

Azerbaijan had launched a military operation in the region, accusing the separatist forces of shelling and fortifying defensive positions.

However, mediation by the Russian peacekeeping contingent led to both sides agreeing to the truce.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Naser Kanani, welcomed the agreement and urged both sides to resolve their dispute through dialogue and peaceful mechanisms within Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

Kanani emphasized that war only leads to destruction and hatred, endangering regional stability and security. He expressed hope that the agreement would bring an end to hostilities in the region.

Kanani reiterated Iran's stance on respecting the territorial integrity and recognized the international borders of regional countries.

He emphasized that the rights and security of the residents of Karabakh should be ensured within this framework.

Iran is ready to contribute to sustainable peace processes in the region and warned against third-party intervention, which could complicate existing issues and jeopardize standing agreements.
