The Iran Project - Iran has condemned the decision made by Britain, France, and Germany to extend their sanctions against the country, which go against the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal also known as JCPOA.

The sanctions were set to expire next month under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but the European trio, known as the E3, announced that they would be keeping the bans in place.

Iran's Foreign Ministry called this decision illegal and a breach of the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

The European countries justified their decision by accusing Iran of transferring drones to Russia and potentially providing ballistic missiles to Moscow.

Iran has denied these allegations and criticized the E3 for their failure to compensate for the US's withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018.

Iran reminded that it began taking countermeasures in accordance with the JCPOA's provisions after giving the US and the E3 a year to rectify their violations.

The statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry deemed the E3's decision as lacking legal justification and counterproductive to efforts to revive the JCPOA.

The foreign ministry also cautioned that Iran would respond to this "illegal and provocative" decision "in the appropriate manner and in line with its rights under the JCPOA."
