Iran received guarantees on US commitments to assets deal

The Iran Project - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani stated that Tehran has received a guarantee from the US on its commitment to a recent agreement to exchange prisoners and release Iran's frozen assets abroad.

Speaking to reporters at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanani praised the governments successful efforts to secure the release of the financial resources of Iran that had been blocked under the US illegal sanctions.

Kanani emphasized that Iran now has full access to its own resources and can use them to purchase goods, with any remaining funds being turned into a deposit with an interest rate.

He also clarified that the talks on unfreezing Iranian assets are not directly linked to negotiations to revive the 2015 nuclear deal but acknowledged that issues can affect each other. The talks to salvage the agreement began in April 2021 and have experienced interruptions due to US indecisiveness and procrastination.

Furthermore, Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, is set to travel to Saudi Arabia soon at the invitation of his Saudi counterpart and senior officials.

The visit aims to discuss bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments. This comes after Riyadh and Tehran normalized their diplomatic relations earlier this year under a China-brokered deal. The two countries signed a normalization agreement in March, committing to ending a seven-year rift.
