Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said Iran and Azerbaijan are currently following a positive path of constructive cooperation.

During a phone call on Thursday, Amir-Abdollahian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov exchanged views on the most important issues in bilateral cooperation and in the region.
"Currently, the process of cooperation between Tehran and Baku is on a constructive and positive path forward," Amir-Abdollahian said.
He also described as successful the recent meeting between Iranian and Azerbaijani delegates in the framework of the joint intergovernmental economic commission between Iran and Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, which was held in the Iranian border city of Astara on July 17, the two sides reached good agreements in rail and road routes, Amir-Abdollahian added.

Referring to a virtual meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation scheduled to be held on Monday, Iran's top diplomat once again condemned the recent heinous acts of desecration of the Holy Qur'an in Sweden and Denmark.

Bayramov, for his part, described as important Amir-Abdollahian's recent visit to Baku, saying that in the shortest time after this trip, "we can see its positive effects" on the relations between the two countries.

Azerbaijan's top diplomat also thanked Tehran for its constructive stance toward the Karabakh region.

Internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, Karabakh - populated only by ethnic Armenians�since the 1990s when Azerbaijanis fled their homes after the first war broke out - has been the biggest source of animosity between the two neighbors.
