The Iranian national mens volleyball team has notched up another remarkable victory in the 2013 FIVB World League, trouncing European powerhouse Germany in a three-set match.
The Iranian sportsmen beat their opponents 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, and 25-20) in a competitive match at the Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran on Friday.

The Iranians started the match with vim and vigor and dominated the first set, which they won 25-19.

The Iranian squad continued to exert a good spell of pressure on the Germans, taking the second set 25-18.

The Iranian volleyball players took the third set 25-20 to complete the clean sweep.

The victory was Irans fifth in this year's FIVB World League. The second leg of the match between Iran and Germany will be played on Saturday.

Iran now has 15 points and is in fourth place in Pool B, behind Russia, Italy, and Serbia. Germany is in fifth with 14 points.

On July 7, the Iranian volleyball team defeated Cuba 3-2 for the second time in the course of about 24 hours in Havana, after losing the first two sets.

In a close contest one day earlier in the Cuban capital, the Iranian sportsmen also came from behind to stun the Cubans 3-2 (24-26, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, and 16-14).

On June 30, Italy defeated Iran 3-2 in Sassari, Italy after Iran won its second World League victory of the season by beating Italy 3-1 in the northern Italian city of Modena one day before.

On June 23, the Iranian volleyball players defeated Serbia in their first World League victory of the 2013 season.

The Iranian national volleyball squad beat Serbia 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 15-12) in a home match at the Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran.

On June 21, Serbia beat Iran 3-2 in a game also played in Tehran.

The other two groups competing in the 24th FIVB World League are Pool A, which consists of Brazil, Poland, the United States, Bulgaria, Argentina, and France, and Pool C, which consists of Canada, South Korea, Finland, the Netherlands, Japan, and Portugal.

The intercontinental competition began on May 31 and runs until July 14. The finals will be held in Mar del Plata, Argentina from July 17 to 21.

The top two teams from Pool B, the winner of Pool C, and the host nation qualify for the finals. The top two teams of Pool A, excluding Argentina, will also head to the finals.
