Tasnim � The United Nations' Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs called on Iran to take part in the efforts to prevent environmental hazard at some ports of Yemen.

Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior assistant to the Iranian foreign minister, held a meeting with the UN's Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Ramesh Rajasingham in Geneva on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with mutual cooperation on offering humanitarian aid at bilateral, regional and international levels.

Khaji touched upon the dispatch of relief aid, medical equipment and medicine to Yemen to tackle the spread of coronavirus, and called on the UN to play a more active role in helping Yemeni people across the country.

The UN official, in turn, hailed Iran�s humanitarian assistance, especially to Afghan nationals in the areas of education and health, and called on Iran to contribute to efforts to prevent an environmental hazard in some Yemeni ports.

In a videoconference meeting with Foreign Minister of the Yemeni National Salvation Government Hisham Sharaf Abdullah in July, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had dismissed as unacceptable the aggression and unfair blockade against Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition as well as the seizure of ships carrying food and fuel amid the coronavirus pandemic.

�Despite restrictions and obstructive moves, the Islamic Republic of Iran keeps adopting the necessary measures to send humanitarian aid to stem the spread of the coronavirus, and, as before, will try its utmost to advance the Yemen peace process in a bid to see the blockade lifted, a ceasefire put in place and political talks resumed as part of numerous regional and international consultations,� Zarif had said.
