US deprived Iran of JCPOA benefits, spokesman says

Tasnim The US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and its disrespect for the international diplomacy prevented Iran from enjoying the advantages of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the administrations spokesperson said.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, Ali Rabiee said the time has come to conduct a fair review of achievements of the JCPOA on the fifth anniversary of signing of the nuclear deal.

The agreement lost its function for our people after the US withdrawal, he deplored.

The Americans did not allow the Iranian people to enjoy the economic benefits of the JCPOA, Rabiee said.

Despite the US breach of the nuclear deal, Iran proved that its nuclear activities are peaceful and it has had nothing to hide, the spokesman stated.

The US disrespected international diplomacy, and in the absence of the JCPOA, we should have spent millions of dollars to prove a series of facts to the world, the spokesman added.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the nuclear deal.

The JCPOA took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation was hampered by the US policies and its eventual withdrawal from the deal.

On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the nuclear accord.

Following the US withdrawal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

However, the EUs failure to ensure Irans economic interests forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments under the JCPOA.

Iran has reduced its commitments to the nuclear deal in five steps, but has made it clear that it would immediately return to the JCPOA if the other parties fulfill their commitments.
