IRGC navy deploys equipment to help flood victims

Tasnim The spokesman for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said the IRCG Navy has deployed medium and heavy engineering machinery to the city of Shiraz and the province of Golestan as part of its ongoing rescue efforts in north and south of Iran.

The IRGC Navy Force in Fars province mobilized and deployed its medium and heavy machinery, including cranes and trucks, to help remove debris soon after flash flooding hit the city of Shiraz, General Ramezan Sharif said on Thursday, according to Sepah news.

He added that the force has also set up a large field hospital in Siminshahr, Gomishan District, in Golestan, to treat those injured in recent floods there and help those in desperate need.

Other equipment including small boats and jet skis have been also transferred to the flood-hit areas, the general added.

The floods, caused by torrential rain, have affected 25 of Irans 31 provinces in recent days, with Golestan in the north and Fars in the south, among the most severely affected ones.

More than two dozen people have been killed as a result of the flooding countrywide. The southern city of Shiraz, the capital of Fars province, with 19 deaths that occurred during Monday's floods accounts for the highest number of casualties.

Meanwhile, rescue efforts are underway in several provinces.

Meteorologists are predicting that the downpours will briefly recede in most parts of the country but they have forecast more heavy showers and warned of deluges and landslides.
