March 1, The Iran Project - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation traveled to Tehran on Wednesday (Feb. 27) to confer with senior Iranian officials on issues of mutual interests.�

During his two-day official visit,�Pashinyan held talks with top officials including�Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

Furthermore, two memoranda of understanding for joint economic cooperation were signed between Iran and Armenia in the presence of Iranian President Rouhani and Armenian prime minister.

One of the MoUs was signed between Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran and Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia, while the other was inked between the High Council of Free-Industrial and Special Economic Zones of Iran and Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia.

The prime minister also�visited Tehran Ararat Sports and Cultural Center and met representatives of the Armenian community of Tehran.

On the last day of his trip, the Armenian official paid a visit to Isfahan and held talks with the governor and representatives of the Armenian community.

In a meeting with visiting Armenian premier, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed� Iran and Armenia should work to further boost their relations irrespective of opposition from the US that seeks sedition, division, and war across the world.

�Indeed, the Americans are totally untrustworthy and are seeking sedition, corruption, division and war everywhere, and they are against Iran-Armenia relations as well as [other] nations� interests, but we have a duty to boost our cooperation and interactions in response,� the Leader noted.

The Leader also touched on the Karabakh issue and said the dispute could be settled through continued negotiations between Armenian and Azeri officials and expressed Iran�s readiness to contribute to its resolution.

The Armenian premier, for his part, described his meetings in Tehran as �constructive and promising� and hoped for the immediate implementation of the agreements signed in his visit.

Pashinian said the history of Iran-Armenia good ties could contribute to further promotion of relations.

�Armenia has never joined and will not join any measure against Iran and we believe the development of ties with Iran serve our country and people,� he said.

In a meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Armenia, attended by President Rouhani and Armenian PM Pashinyan, the two sides voiced their resolve to expand bilateral cooperation in all available fields such as energy, agriculture, technology and transportation.

Speaking at the meeting, the�Iranian president said the country is always willing to develop its relations and cooperation with its neighboring countries, particularly Armenia.

"Iran and Armenia can increase their energy cooperation, including gas and electricity both bilaterally and with other countries in the region," he said, adding that Iran could also participate in refinery construction projects in Armenia.

For his part, the prime minister of Armenia appreciated Iran�s warm welcome, and said, "We are determined to develop relations with Iran in all fields, including economy, culture, agriculture, transportation, communications and tourism."

"Developing Eurasian cooperation with Iran and approving preferential trade agreement will be a great development of the region,"�Nikol Pashinyan added.

in a meeting with Nikol Pashinyan, Ali Larijani�underlined development of all-out ties, in particular in the parliamentary field.

He said that the Eurasian Union (EAU) has good capacities for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.

In the meantime, the Armenian prime minister, in turn, welcomed the development of economic relations with Iran, expressing the hope that his visit to Tehran opens a new page in the two countries� relations.

In 2017, Iran was Armenia�s sixth major trade partner. The country improved its standing to fifth in 2018.
