Tasnim A top Iranian general said the IRGC has first-hand information that the number of American soldiers killed in the futile wars on Afghanistan and Iraq are 2.5 times higher than the official US statistics.

In comments at a cultural ceremony in the city of Qom on Thursday, Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Brigadier General Esmaeel Qaani said while the US claims that it has lost 5,000 soldiers in the wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, the IRGC has detailed information that the statistic is more than 2.5 times higher than what Washington has announced.

He further described the September 11, 2001, attacks in the US as a self-inflicted blow which many American officials referred to as a mistake later.

The result of the US self-inflicted 9/11 attacks was its move to impose two military campaigns on the Middle East and to spend 7 trillion dollars on futile wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Iranian general added.

In comments in December 2018, IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said the decision by the US administration to withdraw from Syria signifies that it has admitted to its inability to overrun the Middle East region.

In February 2018, US President Donald Trump said Washington has spent $7 trillion in the Middle East.
