IRNA � An Iranian parliamentary delegation left Tehran for Damascus on Sunday to explore new ways of further fostering relations with Syria.

The delegation is headed by Chairman of Iran Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahat-pisheh.

While in Syria, the lawmakers will hold talks with top Syrian political officials on the ways to boost parliamentary ties and expand mutual collaboration now that the terrorist group of Daesh has been defeated there.

The visit is taking place in line with the broad policy pursued by the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to reinforce mutual cooperation with Syria after the end of the crisis in Syria.

So far, the commission has convened several meetings on Iran's political-economic strategies after termination of crisis in Syria and Iraq.

Recently, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi emphasized that during the reconstruction of Syria, Iran could certainly play a constructive role alongside people and government of that country.

The situation in Syria is clear to the international community today, given the constructive presence of Iran and the relief efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the aftermath of the crisis during a period when the remaining problems are being solved in this country, he said.

'We welcome the opening of embassies of other countries and the cooperation that they can have in Syria,' he said, stating that Iran will continue this presence and is optimistic about the future of relations between Iran and Syria.

'What matters to us is the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and the expulsion of terrorists from this country, which has been achieved today,' Qasemi said.
