Venezuela calls for boosting strategic cooperation with Iran

FNA - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro voiced his country's willingness to deepen relations with Iran in the wake of the re-imposition of unilateral sanctions by the US against Tehran.

"Caracas will continue strategic cooperation and alliance with Iran," President Maduro wrote on his Twitter account after his meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's special envoy, Hojjatollah Soltani.

The Venezuelan president reiterated consolidating mutual cooperation with Iran in different fields, including energy, technology and tourism.

In relevant remarks in mid-July, Nicaraguan Ambassador to Tehran Mario Antonio Barquero Baltodano underlined various fields for cooperation with Iran, and called for more efforts to expand trade and investment between the two states.

"Political relations between the two countries are excellent but more efforts should be made in areas of trade and investment. We are highly optimistic that achievements will be made in this regard in the near future," Baltodano said.

He added that Iran and Nicaragua can cooperate in renewable energies, nanotechnology, medical equipment, medicine and irrigation.

Baltodano also called for the removal of obstacles to the further broadening of relations with Iran.
