110 domestic, foreign firms attending 9th Iran Airshow

IRNA - More than 110 domestic and foreign firms have participated in the 9th Iran Airshow which opened on Monday on the Persian Gulf island of Kish.

Concurrent with Iran Airshow, Irans International Conference on General Aviation will be held on the island with the cooperation of Irans Aerospace Research Institute.

Addressing the exhibitions opening ceremony, Bijan Bonakdar, the secretary of the ninth edition of the expo, said, Today, we witness a great event on Kish Island. The holding of this show in which more than 110 domestic and foreign companies are taking part can be an indication of a very bright outlook for Irans aviation industry.

He noted that some 16 years ago, the exhibition was held for the first time on the island, adding, Today, we witness the opening of the ninth edition of the show in the same venue despite the re-imposition of cruel US sanctions on Irans aviation industry.'

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and P5+1 in July 2015, and announced that the White House will reimpose its unilateral sanctions on the country in two phases, both already in place.

Bonakdar said the exhibition is being held in an area measuring 14,000 square meters.

The expo will be open to visitors until November 29. The opening ceremony was attended by Irans Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Secretary of Irans High Council of Free Trade Zones Morteza Bank, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Irans Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and Director General of Kish Free Zone Organization Mohammad-Ebrahim Ansari Lari.
