IRNA � Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Sunday denounced terror attack in Tikrit, which killed five and wounded 16.


He also expressed solidarity with the Iraqi government and nation as well as families of the victims.

�Remnants of the Takfiri terrorists which have lost their status in the wake of the Iraqi people�s resistance, are seeking to avenge the Iraqi people through suicide attacks, which of course will never affect the Iraqi nation and government�s resolve in fighting terrorists and uprooting the cancerous tumor,� he said.

A car bomb blast has killed at least five civilians and wounded 16 others in northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, police and medical sources have said.

The car was parked near a restaurant in Tikrit, about 175km north of the capital, Baghdad. The blast set nearly a dozen vehicles on fire, police sources said on Sunday.

Three of the dead were women, sources told the AFP news agency. Tikrit's main hospital said it had received several patients wounded in the attack.

There were no immediate claims for the attack, though the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) has claimed responsibility for several recent attacks in Iraq.
