Iran hails Netherlands' key role in preserving JCPOA

Iran hails Netherlands
IRNA Visiting Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized the significant role played by the Netherlands in preserving the 2015 landmark nuclear deal famously known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).


In a meeting on Friday with his Dutch counterpart Stef Blok which was held on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Zarif also hailed Amsterdam's efforts to uphold the historic nuclear deal.

The Netherlands is playing the facilitator role in resolution 2231 until the end of 2018.

The two foreign ministers also discussed JCPOA, major regional issues and the Europe's especial mechanism for meeting Iran's economic interests.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Gholamhossein Dehqani also participated in the meeting.

Zarif arrived in New York on September 23 along with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to attend the UNGA meeting.

On the sidelines of the UNGA's 73rd session, Zarif also participated in the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit and held separate talks with P4+1 foreign ministers.

Zarif and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in their first joint statement after the US withdrawal from Iran nuclera deal underlined preserving the agreement as well as meeting Iran's economic interests.

The Iranian foreign minister has so far held talks with his counterparts from Portugal, Germany, Sweden and South Korea.
