IRNA � Iran's western city of Tazehabad in Kermanshah Province was hit by a 4.6-magnitude aftershock on Wednesday.

The tremor occurred at 10:42 hours local time (6:12 GMT) in an area located at 46.28 degrees latitude and 34.63 degrees longitude in Salas Babajani region.

It was registered at the depth of eight km underground, said a report by Iran's Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University.

The epicenter of the quake was registered at 17km from Tazehabad in Salas Babajani region, 28km from the provincial city of Javanroud, and 32km from the city of Kuzran.

Salas Babajani is home to 38,000 people and is located 136 kilometers west of the provincial capital city of Kermanshah.

On August 26, Tazehabad was hit by a strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake which killed two people and injured 90 others.

Some 26,000 houses were damaged by the earthquake.

Kermanshah has been jolted by several earthquakes since November 12, 2017, when a 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit the province's Ezgeleh region killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
