Iran eyes tripling flights to Afghanistan

Tasnim Head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) said the country has offered to triple the number of weekly flights to neighboring Afghanistan.

According to Ali Abedzadeh, there are now nine direct flights a week between Iran and Afghanistan.

Highlighting the need for more flights between the two neighbors, the official said Iran has proposed to launch as many as 30 direct flights a week over a span of several years.

In June, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China, hoping for an immediate finalization of a comprehensive cooperation deal between Tehran and Kabul.

He also voiced Irans resolve to boost ties with its eastern neighbor and make investment in various development plans in Afghanistan, such as in the transportation infrastructures.
