IRNA - Iran's ex-diplomat and former nuclear negotiator on Saturday dismissed the idea of direct talks with the US without preconditions and said that negotiations under pressure is not fruitful.


Negotiations under the shadow of pressure, humiliation, threats and accusations is a terrible mistake, Hossein Mousavian said in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

He noted that the US President Donald Trump should learn to talk with Iran respectfully.

The Iranian analyst who is also a visiting scholar at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School cautioned about the US efforts to make socio-political crises in Iran, and said that resolution of problems is only possible if all people and political parties are united to support the government.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mousavian described the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a big test for the EU, China and Russia, and said that the coalition of supporters of Iran nuclear deal should use all their capacities to save the JCPOA.

The coalition of supporters of JCPOA should prevent international consensus for imposing international embargos on Iran, he noted.

Mousavian pointed to certain Arab countries and Israel attempts to sabotage the JCPOA, and said that it is of no surprise if global Zionism and its Arab allies are trying to sabotage the nuclear deal because it led to removal of Islamic Republic sanctions and legitimized its civilian nuclear program.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate nuclear sanctions on Iran.

This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of the world peace and security.
