Sadr movement does not accept dictates of US about Iran: Politician

IRNA Iraq's Sadr Movement does not welcome what the US dictates to the country on cooperation with Iran, an Iraqi politician announced on Tuesday evening.

Due to the fight and sacrifice the Sadr Movement and other Iraqi partners have already made, they will not bow down to the US ambitions, Zia al-Asadi who is head of political bureau of the Movement said in an interview with the Lebanese TV news channel Al Mayadeen.

Iran is Iraq's neighbor and the two countries enjoy common economic, social, cultural and historical interests, said al-Asadi, stressing that the Sadr Movement under the leadership of Moqtada al-Sadr will not accept dictates of others about the issue.

Moqtada al-Sadr, an Iraqi Shia cleric, is a politician whose political grouping has been declared winner of parliamentary election in Iraq.

According to Sadr's political aide, Iraq's foreign policy should be based on one criterion which focuses on serving the Iraqi interests and those of neighbors as well.

Al-Asadi went on to say that the US ambitions have no place in Iraq.

US desires and ambitions, which are only in line with the interests of the Zionists and the oil and arms companies, know no borders, al-Asadi said.

The US policies have failed and brought destruction and disaster to the region, the Iraqi politician added.

About US presence in Iraq, he said such presence is unacceptable unless it is within the framework of having embassy like what Baghdad has in Washington.

US military presence in Iraq is not acceptable because it is not upon the request of the Iraqi government, al-Asadi noted.
