Light quake jolts southern Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale shook Takht in southern province of Hormuzgan on Wednesday.


According to a report by seismography center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 5:41 hours local time (1:11 hours GMT) with its epicenter being registered at 56.79 degrees longitude and 27.69 degrees latitude and at the depth of 14 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake has been registered at 25 km of Takht, 31 km of Sargaz, 36 km of Qaleh Qazi, 74 km of Bandar Abbas and 290 km of Kerman.

No casualties or damage to property have been reported.

Iran sits on several major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
