Scuba divers to examine sunken tanker's remains

IRNA Scuba divers will be definitely dispatched to the site where Sanchi tanker sank two months ago, according to an NIOC official.


Mohsen Bahrami, the spokesman of National Iranian Oil Company said on Monday that the insurance companies and the related countries want to know about the condition of the sunken Iranian tanker.

Carrying over 130,000 tons of gas condensates, Sanki was en route to South Korea when it collided with a Chinese freighter in East China Coast on January 6.

The tanker finally sank after more than a week of burning with all its 32 crew members being dead.

Noting that investigations have been carried out, Bahrami said that the black box of the tanker was examined.

The related countries are scheduled to have another meeting on Sanchi tanker next week, the official said.

The issue is not restricted to a certain country, rather it is an international issue, he said, adding that the results of the search operations will be definitely announced.

Iran insists on finding the bodies of the missing Iranian sailors as the scuba divers are going to examine the sunken tanker, he added.
