Dutch FM meets top Iranian officials in Tehran

February 24, The Iran Project - The Netherlands Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag arrived in Tehran on Tuesday (Feb. 20) for negotiating with high-ranking Iranian officials.

On the same day,Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Alfonso Mara Dastis Quecedo also arrived in the Iranian capital.

While in Tehran, the Dutch FM held talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, President Hassan Rouhani and Leaders Senior Advisor in the International Affairs Ali-Akbar Velayati.

Zarif and his Dutch counterpart reviewed ways to expand mutual ties. Regional and international issues were also among topics discussed by both sides.

The Iranian and the Dutch FMs also exchanged views on development of bilateral relations in oil, gas, parliamentary and banking fields.

In a meeting with Dutch FM, Shamkhani stated that the US is trying hard to revive terrorist groups in the Middle East and north Africa region.

Kagg, in turn, expressed her gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Irans compliance with its commitments under the nuclear deal, saying the implementation of the deal will benefit the two nations of the two countries in political and economic fields.

Iranian President told Kaag that the Iranian nation maintain that the defense power of their country is not an issue to compromise over.

There is no obstacle on the path to develop the growing relations between the two countries and we are ready to broaden ties in all areas, reassured the Iranian head of state.

Meanwhile, Kaag said Dutch companies are ready to participate more actively in Iran's projects for new technologies, agriculture and energy saving, and the Dutch government encourages companies to expand their activities in Iran.

In a meeting with Dutch foreign minister in Tehran, Velayati praised existing cultural ties between Iran and the Netherlands, calling for further strengthening of bilateral relations.

The Dutch foreign minister, for her part wished for expansion of relations and cooperation between the two sides.

Iran and the Netherlands are determined to expand cooperation through exchange of views in various cultural and technological fields, she said.
