IRNA � Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg speaking at Munich Security Conference on Friday underlined high significance of 2015 nuclear deal with Iran (JCPOA) and called for its full implementation.


After delivering a lecture in the 54th round of Munich Security Conference, he said in response to a question by one of the audience that JCPOA is a significant deal which should be implemented fully.

Elsewhere in his speech, he said that nuclear proliferation is taking shape and nuclear deals including Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) are facing threats.

�But we should safeguard the pact,� he went on to say.

He also called on Russia to address concerns of the NATO allies in a transparent and fundamental way.

Describing North Korea�s nuclear and missile program as a threat to all NATO members, he said that Pyongyang is closer to Munich than Washington. Therefore, it must be forced to abandon nuclear program through diplomatic channels and economic sanctions.

Russia and China as members of UN Security Council and neighbors of North Korea shoulder a heavy responsibility in this respect, he said.

�Iran also possesses a proliferation concern. That is why NATO Allies place great importance on the Iran nuclear deal, but to be effective it must be properly implemented. All these developments force us to pay more attention to nuclear threats,� Stoltenberg said.

The 54th Munich Security Council opened at Hotel Bayerischer Hof in the German city Friday.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is slated to deliver a speech in the event Sunday evening.
