Lebanon's PM to arrive in Egypt Tuesday after unexpected resignation

Sputnik News-Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who unexpectedly announced his resignation on November 4, will arrive in Egypt on Tuesday, according to Lebanese media reports.

According to Almustaqbal newspaper, which cites the Lebanese prime minister's press service, Saad Hariri will meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi during his upcoming visit to Egypt.

The Lebanese politician is currently in Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.

Hariri traveled toParis fromSaudi Arabia, where he announced his decision tostep downin a speech aired onSaudi television.Lebanese President Michel Aoun has not recognized the resignation ofHariri, echoing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's concerns that the statement could have been made underpressure bythe Saudi authorities. Lebanese officials suggested that Hariri could have been forcibly held inSaudi Arabia, buthe dismissed these allegations.

Jean-Paul Chagnollaud, the director ofthe Institute ofresearch and studies onthe Mediterranean and the Middle East (iReMMO) think tank, noted that France could succeed asa mediator, sinceit had good relations withall the countries involved inthe crisis.

Hariri expressed fear ofassassination and criticized Iran and Hezbollah movement forattempts todestabilize the situation inthe Middle East. He is expected toreturn toBeirut onWednesday.
"With regard tothe political situation inLebanon, I will go toBeirut inthe coming days, I will participate inthe independence celebrations, and it is there that I will make known my position onthese subjects aftermeeting President [Michel] Aoun," Hariri said afterholding talks withMacron.
