Iran dismisses UN anti-Iran human rights report as 'lopsided', 'illegitimate'

IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi criticized an anti-Iran report by UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran Asma Jahangir, saying that the report is lopsided, illegitimate and invalid.

On the new report about human rights situation in Iran presented to the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, Qasemi said, 'Appointment of a special rapporteur on human rights in Iran as well as reports presented to General Assembly and Human Rights Council are unfair and politically-motivated.'

'Therefore, reports released based on political motivations of certain countries are devoid of legitimacy and validity,' he said.

We believe using political and insincere approaches based on fully double-standard policies by few states will bring nothing but undermining the status of human rights in the world and further disgrace of the so-called human rights advocates and their allies, which all have dark records on human rights, Qasemi said.

Touching on Tehrans response to the allegations leveled against Iran in the new report by Jahangir, he said that Irans official answer has been registered as the official document of the General Assembly and besides that Irans representative to the UN has read out Irans statement in the Third Committee Session.
