Syrian army secures largest Daesh hotbed in Homs province - Source



Sputnik - Syrian armed forces managed to secure the largest Daesh hotbed in Homs and the last significant citadel of terrorists on the way to the besieged city of Deir ez-Zor, a local source told Sputnik on Saturday.


According tothe source, the Syrian army completely surrounded the town a few days beforethe final offensive.
"The Syrian army has freed the entire town ofAs Sukhnah, one ofthe last IS [Daesh] strongholds inHoms province. At the moment, engineers are inspecting the city forpossible bombs and mines set bythe IS militants," the source said.


On Saturday, the Syrian army supported byits Air Forcerepelled a Daesh attack onDeir ez-Zor.

A week ago,Khaled Alkhateb, a stringer working forthe RT Arabic broadcaster,was killedinan anti-tank missile attack carried outby Daesh terrorists nearthe liberated settlement inAs-Sukhnah, where fierce battles forits liberation were taking place.

Deir ez-Zor, located onthe shores ofthe Euphrates River tothe northeast ofDamascus, and a military airfield nearthe city have been besieged byDaesh forover three years, withfood and ammunition only being delivered byair.
