Zarif: OIC meeting on Palestine, right decision

IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described decision taken by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold an extraordinary meeting on Palestine and al-Aqsa as a wise and coordinated one by the Islamic countries to defend the Palestine cause.

The measure is an appropriate one being taken coordinately by the Islamic countries to 'defend Palestine and the holy Quds,' Zarif said on Tuesday upon arrival in Istanbul to partake in the OIC extraordinary meeting.

Recent developments in al-Aqsa Mosque and the limitations imposed by the Zionist regime on Palestinians are among reasons behind holding the meeting.

The OIC today meeting, as the Iranian foreign minister told reporters, is an indication of coordination between the Islamic countries against the Zionists' new move.

'The Zionist regime, continuing its occupying policies, endeavors to change the identity of the occupied lands and judaize these regions,' Zarif noted.

He further described the OIC extraordinary meeting in Istanbul as an opportunity for taking actions against the Zionists' main aim.

He expressed hope that the decision to be made by the OIC meeting will help the coordinated international attempts to cease the crimes being committed by the Zionist regime .

Zarif went on to say that the Zionist regime's policies should be stopped.

In addition, he urged the Islamic countries to be vigilant against those policies and not let the illegitimate regime divert the attention of the World of Islam away from the main danger.

The foreign minister further referred to extremism and terrorism as threats to the World of Islam, stressing the Zionist regime; however, is the major threat which fans the flames of terrorism.

Foreign ministers of OIC member states are scheduled to discuss developments in the occupied Palestine.

After the meeting, a statement is also to be released on recent incidents in Palestine and the Zionists pressures on Palestinians.

The Zionist regime prohibited Palestinians from entering the al-Aqsa Mosque on two consecutive Fridays. The Zionists urged the Palestinian worshipers to go through electronic gates but they disobeyed the order.

Also in a clash between the Quds occupying regime forces and the Palestinians happening in front of the Mosque, three Palestinians were martyred on July 14.
