Shana-- The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)'s committee of reservoir advisors has reviewed Maersk Group's proposed plan for developing South Pars Oil Layer (SPOL).

The proposal was considered in the 140th meeting of the committee's members at NIOC headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, reservoir specifications, development projects in three phases, and possible scenarios for enhancing production from the layer were discussed.

Maersk has been producing oil from the field's oil layer in Persian Gulf waters for the better part of the past 25 years.

The company has developed and adopted state-of-the-art technologies for drilling very long horizontal wells, flushing with gas, water injection, water and gas injection (WAG), etc. in the field.

Most of Iran's gas output comes from the joint South Pars gas field in Persian Gulf waters.

South Pars contains 40 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of natural gas. It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran�s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar�s territorial waters.

The gas field is estimated to contain about eight percent of the world�s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
