Syrian troops find US anti-tank missile systems in Latakia Province

MNA The Syrian government troops have found a storage with over 30 US heavy anti-tank missile systems in the Latakia Province during a demining operation, the commander of the engineering service of the Latakias garrison, said.


The Syrian government forces have defused 800 high-powered explosive devices in11 settlements inthe Latakia province sincethe beginning ofJuly, Gen. Rafi Muhammad Magdi, according tothe commander.

"From the beginning ofthe month we have cleared 11 settlements inthe mountain area ofLatakia Over 800 high-powered explosive devices have been defused sincethe militants left the territory," Magdi told reporters, adding that the settlements are ready forthe return ofresidents.

During the mine clearing operation, storage withover 30 US heavy anti-tank missile systems was found, the official added.

No one was injured duringthe operation, Magdi said, noting that each serviceman underwent training inthe Russian Armed Forces International Mine Action Center inSyria.

The Mine Action Center was opened inlate January totrain Syrian sappers and provide all necessary equipment todemine the country's territory.

Russia, Iran and Turkey are guarantors ofthe Syrian ceasefire regime. The countries signed a memorandum onthe establishment offour safe zones inSyria, which came intoforce onMay 6. The four zones span the northwestern Idlib province and parts ofthe neighboring Latakia, Hama and Aleppo, the north ofthe central Homs province, Eastern Ghouta nearDamascus, aswell assouthern Daraa and Quneitra regions.
