Syria delegation at Astana blames Turkish negativity for modest results

Sputnik News- The Syrian government delegation in Astana blames Turkey's "negative attitude" toward the Astana peace process for the lack of results of the fifth round of talks, delegation head Bashar Jaafari said Wednesday.

The government delegation stated that all sides had a positive viewpoint, except Turkey, what reflects the country's attitude towards the Astana talks.

"The result is very modest, contrary tothe positive viewpoint taken byall the parties, exceptfor the Turkish delegation. There has been an indication that the Turkish policy towardstoAstana processis a negative policy. That negativity resulted inthe modest outcome ofAstana [round] five," Jaafari told reporters onthe results ofthe fifth international meeting.


The next intra-Syrian meeting inAstana will be held inthe last week ofAugust, according tothe joint communique ofSyrian ceasefire guarantor statesRussia, Turkey and Iran onthe results ofthe fifth roundof the talks.

"[It has been] decided tohold the next high-level international meeting onSyria inAstana inthe last week ofAugust 2017," the communique read.

The Syrian ceasefire guarantor states Russia, Turkey and Iran have decided tohold the next meeting ofthejoint working group onAugust 1-2 inIran tocontinue delineation ofde-escalationzones, according tothe joint communique ofguarantor states onthe results ofthe fifth roundof the Syrian settlement talks inAstana.

"[It has been] decided tohold next meeting ofthe joint working group onAugust 1-2 inIran," the communique read.

The fifth international meeting onSyria inAstanatook place onJuly4-5, and brought together the delegations fromthe three guarantor states Russia, Iran and Turkey aswell asthe Syrian sides and the United Nations teams. Jordan and the United States act asobservers. sputniknews.
