Iran, Turkey hold security meeting

FNA- Top Iranian and Turkish security officials in a meeting in Moscow discussed ways to increase mutual cooperation to provide for the common interests of both nations.

The meeting was held between Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Turkish Prime Minister's National Security Advisor Seifollah Haji Muftioglu on Wednesday afternoon on the sidelines of the 8th International Security Conference in Russia.

During the meeting, Shamkhani explained special security situation in the region, and underlined holding regular meetings between national security officials of the two states to eliminate misunderstandings, which might have negative impact on warm and historical relations between the two neighbors.

Muftioglu, for his part, expressed pleasure for holding first meeting with Shamkhani, and called for continued bilateral meetings to consider issues of mutual interest and determining mechanisms to provide common interests of both nations.

In a relevant development on Monday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour and his Turkish counterpart Sedat Onal in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for expanding bilateral ties in different fields.

During the meeting, Rahimpour and Onal explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister said that both Iran and Turkey are considered as important countries in the region, underlying that expansion of mutual ties would pave the way for resolving the regional crises.

Onal, for his part, congratulated Hassan Rouhani's re-election as Iran's president, and underlined that what happened in Iran was a manifestation of democracy.

The Turkish official said that the high voter turnout indicated that the Iranian nation is determined to decide their own fate.
